Based upon the long running BBC Radio 4 programme ‘Desert Island Discs’, we are hoping to compile a list of books that contributors feel should be essential for any young believer’s library.

Many of the books recommended by the contributors to this list are available either new or second-hand. We have included details of some of these suppliers on the Links page. This should not be taken as an endorsement of everything that appears on those sites.

  • The Pilgrim Church
  • by E. H. Broadbent
  • A very carefully researched history of the Church on earth during the dark and somewhat obscure era between the days of the apostles until recent times. The author shows that despite the early incursion of Rome, that there always was a remnant, who at great cost, often to giving their lives, insisted on following the N.T. pattern for the Church. This book makes one realise how much we owe to men who laid down their lives that we might be able to gather as we do, and to practice N.T. truth

  • The Epistle to the Romans
  • by Handley Moule
  • Another classic. The epistle to the Romans in the very bedrock of the Christian faith, and the author has undertaken a warm yet scholarly treatment of this important epistle, which is most enlightening. Highly recommended.
